Considerations for a Security Camera System

There are several important considerations to keep in mind when choosing a security camera system:

Purpose and location:

Consider the purpose and location of the security camera system. Determine what you want to achieve with the system and where you need to place the cameras for optimal coverage.

Quality and resolution:

The quality and resolution of the camera are important factors to consider. Higher resolution cameras will provide clearer images, making it easier to identify individuals and events.

Audio:

Audio is also available on many IP network cameras. Recorded video AND audio of an event can give you more information than video alone.

Field of view:

The field of view of the camera is also important. Choose cameras with wide angles or pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) capabilities to capture a larger area.

Lighting:

Consider the lighting conditions in the area where the cameras will be installed. Choose cameras that have good low-light capabilities or install additional lighting if necessary.

Connectivity:

Ensure that the cameras have a reliable and secure connection to the internet or your local network. You may need to consider whether to use wired or wireless connectivity.

Wired is the preferable option, Higher bandwidth equals higher resolution and higher framerate. Wireless should only be used if wired is not an option.

Storage:

Determine how much storage you will need to save the continuous footage captured by the cameras. the minimum should be no less than 30 days, 120 days some some businesses. High Definition uses much storage than Standard Definition.

Access and control:

Choose a security camera system that provides easy access to the footage and allows you to control the cameras remotely. Many systems offer mobile apps or web-based interfaces for remote access.

Privacy:

Consider the privacy implications of installing a security camera system. Ensure that the cameras are not pointed towards private areas, and notify employees or residents of the installation.

Maintenance:

Regular maintenance is necessary to ensure that the security camera system continues to function properly. Choose a company that offers an after warranty maintenance program and comes with adequate support.
